Bedford Park Area Guide

Bedford Park is a quiet and leafy suburban development in west London. It forms a conservation area that is mostly within the London Borough of Ealing, with a small part to the east within the London Borough of Hounslow. It can be justly described as the world's first garden suburb. Although it was not built in the co-operative manner like some later developments (Brentham Garden Suburb, Hampstead Garden Suburb) it created a model that was emulated not just by the Garden city movement, but suburban developments around the world. Most of the early buildings in Bedford Park are Grade II listed, due to the area being a conservation site. This means that the whole building is protected, including interiors, outhouses and boundary walls and fences.

Bedford Park is a sub locality of Chiswick, giving residents easy access to all of the impressive amenities and attractions of Bedford Park’s parent district. This includes a mix of retail, restaurants, food outlets and expanding office and hotel space. The wide streets encourage cafes, pubs and restaurants to provide pavement seating. Bedford Park and its surrounding areas also boat a huge array of private and state schools for both boys and girls. This array includes many faith schools for all ages. The area is situated close to the District Line and Overground line, providing residents and visitor’s easy access in and out of central London and other districts of London. The area is also famous for the Bedford Park festival, a yearly event which attracts thousands of people from the local area and further afield. It boasts art, photography, music, film, poetry, talks and children’s and community events. All of these factors make Bedford Park an ideal location for young families and professionals alike.
